Named after Vasco, the Portuguese explorer, Vasco Da Gama is the largest industrial and commercial cities of Goa. It is located 39 kms from Panaji, the capital of Goa. Sharing the close proximity with the Marmagoa harbor and Zuari river, the city was actually called as Sambhaji. It came under Portuguese rule in 1543 A.D. And is slowly evolved as a leading export-import trade Centre on a global platform for India.

Vasco da gama is one of the two natural harbors based on Marmagoa port on te west coast of India. Huge tankers and warships from Indian navy are anchored here only. The city has shown prominent growth with time and is now accommodating more people than ever. Infrastructure in the city has been improved and it now looks more developed. Vasco Da Gama was one of the first cities in Goa to be connected to rail and is the only place having Goa’s International Airport

The major tourist attractions in the city include -The Naval Aviation Museum (only museum that houses the history of Indian naval aviation through aircraft exhibits and rare photographs), picturesque Bogmalo Beach, Khollant (Issorcim) and Baina beaches, St. Andrews Church, Japanese Garden. Apart from that, the major festivals observed in the city includes the annual Shri Damodar Bhajani Saptah fair held in Shravan month of Hindu lunar calender and the Shigmo and Carnival annually with a street parade where floats from all over Goa participate.
